Mario Kart is filled with completely pointless filler characters that are better off in terrible, pointless games like Mario Party. I’ve decided to make a list of the characters that really belong in Mario Kart.
These are the characters that need to be in, simply because they are Nintendo’s biggest stars:
- Mario
- Luigi
- Princess Toadstool
- Mushroom Retainer (Toad)
- Donkey Kong
- Bowser
These are the characters that would be nice to have in Mario Kart for some variety, but they aren’t necessary:
- Wario
- Yoshi
- Baby Mario (one baby character isn’t a bad idea, but more than two is an awful idea.)
- Koopa Troopa
- Mii
These are the characters that have no place in Mario Kart: (most of them were just added so that the good characters would have a partner in Double Dash and somehow they made their way to Mario Kart Wii)
- Daisy
- Birdo
- Koopa Paratroopa
- Waluigi
- Toadette
- Baby Peach
- Baby Daisy
- Dry Bones
- Dry Bowser

Mario Kart
After a particularly frustrating Mario Kart Wii online match today in which I went from 1st to 12th in three seconds, I decided to go back to a simpler time- I played Mario Kart 64 through the wonders of Virtual Console. I played Raonbow Road.
Mario Kart 64′s Rainbow Road is by far the best. It takes about six minutes to finish the whole thing and that’s if you’re really good.
Mario Kart Wii’s Rainbow Road is definitely the worst. You go off those jumps and you just pray that you ever land again.
The main difference between Mario Kart 64 and Mario Kart Wii is this: MK64 is like a brick. You run into another racer and they just kind of slide off eventually. There are very few jumps in MK 64. Mario Kart Wii is like a super bouncy ball. When you run into another racer they bounce off you and you go sliding off the track into the void of nothingness. There are tons of jumps in MK Wii.
As strange as it sounds, I’d rather play with a brick than a super bouncy ball.

I’m sitting here looking at the hundreds of dollars I’ve spent on Wii games, and I was bored so I’m blogging about it.
First of all, honorable mention goes to Wii Sports, Twilight Princess, and The Simpsons Game.
5. Mario Kart Wii. This is the second most frustrating video game I’ve ever played after Spy vs. Spy for the NES. But the very fact that I continue to play it over and over again says something… Nintendo knows how to keep you coming back.
4. Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock. I think I spent more time playing this game than any other.
3. Super Paper Mario. Classic with a dollop of modern. Feels like the son of Super Mario Bros. 3.
2. Super Smash Bros. Brawl. If you’ve read my blog regularly you’re probably surprised that this isn’t number one, but I thought about this for a long time, and determined the main problem with this game is repetitiveness – too many of the characters are too similar. Sorry, Brawl but there’s one Wii game that takes the cake… or Mushroom as it were…
1. Super Mario Galaxy. This is like the grandson of Super Mario Bros. 3. There’s not one aspect of this game that I don’t like, from the overall gameplay to the background music. This game rocks!…
