I am now the owner of every Beatles album officially released (which I consider to be every album on this page). From Please Please Me to Love and everything in between – it’s all on my iPod.
Two-hundred-twenty-one songs were released by the Beatles between the years 1962-70, 1995-96. While scrolling through the list of venerable songs, one word seems to summarize the prevalent idea that the Beatles were trying to get across: love. Interestingly, the first word of their first single (“Love Me Do”) and the last word of their last single (“Real Love”) is “love.” “All you need is love”… “have you heard the word is love?”

Statistics:
Amount of songs released by the Beatles on every album, including post-breakup: 588
Amount of songs released by the Beatles on every album, not including post-breakup: 221
Amount of GBs every Beatles song will take up on your iPod: 1.95
Amount of time it would take to listen to every song: 1 day, 2 hours, 23 minutes, 43 seconds
Album most likely to show up in “Shuffle”: Live at the BBC (69 songs)
Album least likely to show up in “Shuffle”: Let It Be (12 songs)
Song most likely to show up in “Shuffle”: “Get Back” with seven different copies/versions
Number of songs featuring Lennon on lead vocals: 133
Number of songs featuring McCartney on lead vocals: 124
Number of songs featuring Harrison on lead vocals: 48
Number of songs featuring Starr on lead vocals: 14
Number of songs credited to Lennon/McCartney: 161
Number of songs credited to Harrison: 23
Number of songs credited to Starkey: 2
Number of songs credited to Lennon/McCartney/Harrison/Starkey: 5
Number of cover songs released: 24

You’re probably thinking, “Who cares? What a waste of precious megabytes.” If you’re thinking that, you are so right. Who needs seven different versions of “Get Back” or five “Eight Days A Week”s or even three “Kansas City/Hey-Hey-Hey-Hey”s? Well, I don’t know who needs those things, but if I ever meet ‘em, I’ll have it all in my pocket.

Earlier today, I was randomly browsing iTunes trying to decide if I should download “Traveling Wilburys Vol. 1″ or “Traveling Wilburys Vol. 3,” when I noticed the same song kept popping up in the “Listeners Also Bought” section: Viva La Vida by Coldplay. I had actually heard of Coldplay before, believe it or not. The night the Grammys aired, I was under the weather and not in the mood to get off the couch and find the remote so that I could change the channel, so I ended up watching the Grammys. Coldplay made some reference to Sgt. Pepper’s so I didn’t automatically hate them. Apparently, Coldplay appeals to fans of many different genres…

Yes, the Beatles are on iTunes – you’ve just got to know where to find them…
Obviously no official Beatles album is on iTunes as of this writing and Apple is losing money every day by not putting them on iTunes because hard-core Beatle fans are just buying the CDs in the stores… but, if you know where to look for the Beatles, you’ll find that they’re scattered all over iTunes. Here is a list of the best places to look for the Beatles on iTunes:

In Songs by Other Bands The Rolling Stones. Sometimes Lennon/McCartney would write songs and give them to other bands; such is the case with the song “I Wanna Be Your Man” which the Rolling Stones recorded. Also, Lennon and McCartney sing backing vocals on “Sing This All Together.” Badfinger. Badfinger was considered to be something of a “Beatles Jr.” at the time, and Paul McCartney wrote a song for them: “Come and Get It.” Eric Clapton. George Harrison (and possibly Ringo Starr) co-wrote “Badge” with Eric Clapton.

On Weird Little Unofficial Albums Actually, there’s only one weird little unofficial album, but it’s also the only album on iTunes to actually credit the artist as “The Beatles” or in some cases “The Beatles & Tony Sheridan.” The album is called In the Beginning and it features some songs they recorded in the early ’60s while they served as the backing band for Tony Sheridan. A couple of the songs from the album do appear on an official album; “Ain’t She Sweet,” “Cry For A Shadow,” and “My Bonnie” all appear on Anthology 1.

In Live Albums from Their Solo Careers John Lennon: He played “Come Together” on Live in New York and “Yer Blues” on Live Peace in Toronto, 1969. Paul McCartney has released some of the best live albums ever. I recommend Back in the U. S. George Harrison released two live albums – The Concert for Bangla Desh (which is, for some reason, not on iTunes) and Live in Japan on which he played “Here Comes the Sun,” “Taxman,” and “Something” among others. Ringo Starr released more live albums than any other Beatle- a whopping ten (most of them with his All-Starr band). Several times, he has played some of his most popular songs: “With a Little Help from my Friends,” “Yellow Submarine,” and “I Wanna Be Your Man.”
