How the Dojo Got its Groove Back

Friday, February 1st, 2008

If you're reading this, you probably know about Super Smash Bros. Brawl so you probably know about the Dojo. If you don't, it's basically an online plethora of Smash Bros. knowledge with updates every week day since last May (not including the week after Christmas).
Lately, the updates haven't been great - mostly music, info on stickers and trophies, and game modes - nothing very interesting.
But Thursday the 31st there was finally an update that pleased me. They will now be updating with hidden characters and hidden stages. It's been so long since I've got a good character update... Captain Olimar... meh.
This morning, the Dojo had a different look. My mouse levitated toward the inviting question marks and I clicked them. I got this message:

I click "Yes." The update was Ness. I don't care for Ness, but for some reason it excited me. I'm looking forward to the update detailing R. O. B. I saw some low quality footage of him today. He has a very interesting move set. I think he's already my favorite character (replacing my former favorites of Jigglypuff and Sheik).

Tales from the Online World of Gaming

Sunday, January 13th, 2008

I've become addicted to online play - mainly on Guitar Hero. I've spent the last five and a half hours destroying people on Guitar Hero... and, yeah, I may have been beat a few times... technicalities.
I have some stories about my online play:
I tend to lean towards Expert most of the time. I'm not like one of those people who's too big for his britches. I can handle Expert... except for three songs - Holiday in Cambodia, Helicopter, and of course Through the Fire and Flames. So Anyways, I'm creating matches like nobody's business, and I'm creaming people - mopping the floor with them. Then this one guy comes along. He selects easy... I laugh a little, and then select Expert. So the first song he picks is Through the Fire and Flames. I consider going back to change my selection to medium, but that's when it hit me- If I did that, I'd become everything that I hate in the world - a quitter, a sap, a loser. So I went with Expert and said to myself, "No guts, no glory." Needless to say, I made a fool of myself - but who was the real fool? Someone who actually challenged himself or someone who is a quitter?
So the very next match, I choose Expert, and my opponent chooses Expert. He picks Through the Fire and Flames. I couldn't believe it. It was better though because we both made fools of ourselves.
Note: If there's a song that you hate, and you hear it enough times... you still hate it.

What Going 5 Days without the Internet can do to a Person

Thursday, January 3rd, 2008

For the past five days I've been rolled up in a ball rocking slowly back and forth in my basement, for I have been without the Internet for those days.
I often twitch nervously now.
The Digiview screen seems so painful to look at. (Our Dell monitor broke... lousy Dell.)
When I walked into the house, knowing that Internet would await me inside for the first time in five days, I was shocked to see that the computer was not hooked up. I ran like a flash and in about fifteen seconds the mouse, mousepad, monitor, keyboard, keyboard wrist softener thingy, tower, and modem were in place and ready to roll.
For the next five days, I will do nothing but sit on the computer to make up for the lost time.

Another thing: If you play Guitar Hero on Expert for at least an half hour, and look at the floor, it feels like you're having a hallucinogenic psychotic dream. The floor looks like quicksand. Groovy, dude!
