I'm Confused

Friday, April 11th, 2008

So today I checked the Dojo as I do devoutly every weekday. It's a Screenshot from Brawlers collection again. Cool. The ones from America weren't so good, but I got a kick out of some of the screens from Japan. I did, however, notice that Sakurai scolds American Brawlers for submitting "screenshots that focus on peeking at the undergarments of certain Brawl combatants". Probably Peach.
I brushed it off as nothing until I checked the Japan Dojo and saw this.
I could rant for a long time, but I've lost all feeling in my fingers.

Brawl Appeals to Casual Gamers

Monday, April 7th, 2008

I never really cared about this fact because I'm more of a hardcore gamer and the game wasn't too cutesie (which I did have some worries about).
But I realized something today, that sort of bothers me and sort of doesn't.
In the Subspace Emissary, in Adventure Mode, in Boss Battle Mode, and in All-Star Mode the difficulty settings are labeled "Easy, Normal, Hard, Very Hard, Intense." There are more hard settings than easy. In most games it would be labeled something like "Very Easy, Easy, Normal, Hard, Very Hard" so that it's even with two easy settings, two difficult settings, and one normal setting. So, in Brawl
Easy = Very Easy
Normal = Easy
Hard = Normal
Very Hard = Hard
Intense = Very Hard
I think this was done so that when casual gamers think they are playing Hard they're actually playing normal and they feel better about themselves so they want to keep playing.
Bow your collective head in shame, Nintendo.

The Worst of the Best

Friday, April 4th, 2008

"The Best" is Super Smash Bros. Brawl. "The Worst" is the things about it I don't like.
Worst Music: Ashley's Theme, which you can hear here... I mean, hear here.
Worst Stage: Rumble Falls. It scrolls up and there are these green and purple spikes all over that are basically a one-hit K. O. if you touch them. But you can't see them coming because it scrolls up and if you get a bit off you're dead.
Worst Item: Dragoon. I'm very thankful for the Item Select because when this item comes the whole match becomes about collecting the three parts and not so much about getting K. O.s.
Worst Assist Trophy: Saki Amaniya. Half the time he just falls off the stage.
Worst Poké Ball: I can't say Goldeen - that's just unfair, so I'll say Gardevoir. It reflects projectiles. I was once playing a Poké Ball-fest (all items Poké Ball). First came Gardevoir, then I got Bonsly. I threw Bonsly at an opponent in my Gardevoirs protective sphere. I got K. O'd.
The coveted prize of Worst Character goes to... Yoshi. I can't stand Yoshi. That high-pitched voice... Yoshi was okay in the N64 version. Yoshi got more annoying in Melee. Yoshi is the most annoying thing ever in Brawl. His voice is enough to make me jump off the battle stage just to escape it.
