Roller Coaster Tycoon Park # 5

September 4th, 2008

Introducing Mayan Temple O’ Fun!:

I got to thinking how people are ravaging the natural beauty of Earth, e. g. rain forests. The Mayan Temples aren’t exactly “natural beauty”, but they could still be ravaged eventually…
I built this on Forest Frontiers, and I bought almost no available land except for what was already there. Surprisingly, I didn’t have to do a lot of penny pinching on this one.
I started by building a Car Ride underground based on my idea from “(Attempted) Roller Coaster Tycoon Park # 4″. This really helped with building the rest of the “temple,” because it was all centered around this area.
I used the gravel land and the rusty metal for the side of the raised land. I didn’t do a whole lot of research, but I’m pretty sure the Mayan temples weren’t built out of metal, but from a distance the rusty metal seems to fit.
I actually had to a small amount of math for this park. If you don’t want to sprain your brain like I did, here’s the “pattern” I used represented in this admittedly overly colorful graph:

Roller Coaster Tycoon Art

August 21st, 2008

I was playing Roller Coaster Tycoon and I realized that I have a whole palette right there under the landscaping feature.
Grass – Green
Sand – Yellow, White, Light Brown
Dirt – Brown
Rocky – Grey, Black
Martian – Red
Water – Blue

So… I made this.

(Attempted) Roller Coaster Tycoon Park # 4

August 17th, 2008

It happens a lot where I get a great idea for a park that I know will cost more than the game allows, but I go for it anyway. This is one of those times:

You might be thinking that this doesn’t look like much of anything… but take a closer look… maybe with some X-Ray specs this time:

Yes, “Crazy Caterpillar” is running through this blob of dirt. I did this by constructing the pre-built design for this particular coaster, deleting pieces of the coaster one at a time, raising the land around the deleted coaster part, and rebuilding the coaster piece underground.
“Crazy Caterpillar” costs about $4,000, but this particular design cost me $20,000 because of all the landscaping.
If I’d had more money, I would’ve completely leveled out the dirt into a nice rectangular prism, changed the dirt into brick to make it look better, and gone on to build more rides in this fashion (Car Ride, Log Flume, etc).
