Another “The Beatles: Rock Band” Update

August 16th, 2009

I was randomly searching Wikipedia, as I often do, when I noticed that more tracks had been officially announced for The Beatles: Rock Band, so I thought that I’d look back on my suggested track listing from way-back-when to see how many I got right. An asterisk (*) denotes the songs I accurately predicted/assumed would be in the game. This list comes complete with my smart-alleck opinions about certain songs!
1. A Hard Day’s Night*
2. Boys*
3. Come Together – I didn’t put this on my original list because it’s mainly a bass and an electric piano.
4. Dear Prudence* – Bonus Track Suggestions: the Phish version of this song.
5. Don’t Let Me Down – A long time ago, there were rumors that this game would be the first in the Rock Band series to include a piano controller. It sounds like a bad idea, but, come to think of it, a lot of Beatles feature a piano.
6. Drive My Car
7. Getting Better*
8. Good Morning Good Morning* – I was hoping this song would be in the game because it features one of the best Beatle guitar solos. However… the solo is played by Paul McCartney, and I’ll bet the game shows virtual George Harrison playing it.
9. Hello Goodbye
10. Helter Skelter* – Now, this is a good Rock Band song.
11. Hey Bulldog
12. I Me Mine – I hope we get to see a virtual Yoko Ono dancing to this song.
13. I Want You (She’s So Heavy)* – This is currently the longest song in the game. I glad they didn’t leave it out because of its length.
14. I Wanna Be Your Man
15. If I Needed Someone
16. I’m Looking Through You – This 2:27 song features about a total of 25 seconds of lead guitar part.
17. Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds
18. Something
19. Ticket To Ride*
20. While My Guitar Gently Weeps* – After all my complaining about the wrong Beatle playing the wrong instrument, I will let the game redeem itself by including virtual Eric Clapton on this song. If there is no virtual Clapton this game is a lost cause. UPDATE: 8-21-09; I just watched the third gameplay trailer and it showed the four Beatles playing this song on top of a windy hill. No Eric Clapton in sight… are they even trying to be accurate? I have decided that I won’t buy this game, because I would find too much wrong with it and it would be unplayable for me.

Full iPod

August 6th, 2009

I hit an iPod landmark today when my order of Sounds of Silence arrived in the mail. My iPod touch is now (basically) full. I have a total of 1134 songs.

Here is a break-down of the amounts of different musical groups I have on my iPod currently:

Artist Name Songs Time (hrs:min) MB
The Beatles 488 21:23 1520
Cream 64 5:11 625
Bob Dylan 52 3:55 462
Phish 51 4:19 503
Led Zeppelin 51 4:14 490
Pink Floyd 45 3:30 411
George Harrison 41 3:02 351
The Rutles 36 1:40 94
John Lennon 33 2:06 208
Simon & Garfunkel 30 1:22 172
Rolling Stones 28 1:50 218

Crosby, Stills, Nash (& Young) 24 1:29 180
Paul McCartney 20 1:12 141
Eric Clapton & Steve Winwood 19 1:59 231
The Blues Brothers 19 1:08 64
Blue Öyster Cult 14 0:51 103
Creedence Clearwayer Revival 12 0:54 104
The Doors 11 0:44 88
Aerosmith 10 0:38 74
Michael Jackson 9 0:42 83
Plastic Ono Band 8 0:40 78
Allman Brothers Band 8 0:38 80
Blind Faith 6 0:42 77
Jethro Tull 4 0:59 111
Ravi Shankar 2 0:22 45

Notes:
- Some artists overlap, such as John Lennon and Paul McCartney (from A Toot and a Snore in ’74), but John Lennon is completely separate from the Plastic Ono Band even though he was a member.
- I count “Crosby, Stills, & Nash” and “Crosby, Stills, Nash, & Young” as the same band. In my mind, Young is like a guest performer with “Crosby, Stills, & Nash.”

You can compare this graph to the one I made earlier this year after I got twenty-four hours of music, and the one I made several months ago after I got forty-eight hours of music.
Some other interesting facts for my own personal future reference:
Longest song: Thick as a Brick (Part One) – Jethro Tull – Thick as a Brick – 22:40
Shortest song: Charlie Watts’s Introduction of Marianne Faithfull – The Rolling Stones Rock ‘n’ Roll Circus – six seconds
Song listened to the most: “Outside Woman Blues” – Cream – listened to it twelve times.
