Roller Coaster Tycoon Park # 3

July 29th, 2008

Introducing, “Desert Oasis”:

A fairly simple park that costs a boatload of dough.
It’s set on Dynamite Dunes, the second park of the game, which is known for being in the middle of the desert. All the terrain is sand to begin with, but I changed it to grass (hence the “Oasis”). To place grass, it costs $25 a square unit, which is really expensive. You may recall that I have an obsession with flattening all the land in a park to the same height, and that’s what really cost me this time around. Dynamite Dunes has a lot of large hills, but once you get some ad campaigns going and plenty of rides, it was much easier. To add to the oasis feel, I added several gardens, trees, and ponds.
Also, you’ll notice that I have a fence around all the sidewalks, because, even though I know they’re computerized and wouldn’t wander into the grass, I don’t like the thought that my guests could walk onto the grass and climb up the roller coaster supports.
By the way, yeah, I built that huge coaster in the back. No one will ever go on it because it “looks too intense for [them],” but I’m not going to demolish it because I needed to fill some space.

I also wanted to mention that, for some reason, there are a few square units of land in the back of Dynamite Dunes that are not for sale. It’s very odd, because they are right in the middle of my flat, grassy oasis.

Apple Apps Store

July 25th, 2008

So I logged on to iTunes today to see if they had the Guitar Hero III version of “The Devil Went Down to Georgia” (they didn’t), but I saw their advertisement for the Apps Store, which I had almost forgotten about. I checked it out, even though I’m not sure if I want to pay the $10 to update my iPod Touch.
Now, after looking around, I think that ten dollars is a very reasonable price to pay. Here are some of my personal favorite free apps:
- More Cowbell! Tap along on the screen with your favorite song. “I’ve got a fever, and the only prescription is more cowbell!”
- PhoneSaber. I won’t get this one due to the fact that the iPod Touch has no external speaker and I would look weird making that zvwhing sound myself. Still pretty cool though.
- Bubblewrap. Great stress reliever.

Wii Game Reviews (July ’08 Edition)

July 22nd, 2008

I was reading through some old blog posts and I came along this, and I wondered why I didn’t do that more often, because since then I’ve played many more Wii Games.

As usual my opinions are not facts, and I’m mainly writing this to kill my own time and not necessarily for anyone’s reading enjoyment (especially since these games came out a long time ago, and you’ve probably already read reviews for them).

Wii Play
6.2/10
The best thing about this game is that it comes with an extra Wii-Mote. The cow-racing is amusing, and the Tanks are addicting. This is the kind of game that I still break out every month or so, just to kill an hour or two. (I think I only played “Pose Mii” once.)

Super Mario Galaxy
9.5/10
This is currently my favorite Wii game. I didn’t think they could improve much on Super Mario 64, but this game proves that theory very wrong. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: I enjoy everything about this game, down to the background music. It’s the perfect level of difficulty.

The Simpsons Game
7.9/10
On one hand this game has pretty good gameplay, and on the other hand it’s hilarious (especially the video game cliches). The problem with this game is that there are some irritating camera angles and the controls are difficult to master.

Super Paper Mario
8.5/10
A great return to the sidescroller with a modern twist. I was cautious about buying this, because from what I’d seen of the previous Paper Marios, I didn’t think I’d like it, but this game is way better than those. The suspense of the storyline is enough to keep me coming back for more.
