Train Travel
For the first voluntary time that I know of, I traveled on a train a week ago. It’s a strange experience. It would’ve been wonderful, except I had those tiny little earphones that I brought along as to not take up space. They kept falling out of my ears and they were so painful. How do people tolerate them? It takes a while to fall asleep, and eating. Oh, eating.
Eating on a train is quite the life experience. I had breakfast on there. I kept wondering how my orange juice wasn’t falling on the floor. And those waiters carrying around huge platters on their finger tips on this big wobbly train. How do they not fall over? I wonder how often they spill on someone. When I walk from car to car I practically fall onto sleeping people as I walk by. By the way, I had sunny-side up eggs, a “fresh warm” biscuit, bacon and hashbrowns.
At one of my train stops I walked by an old freight car, and there was this strange rhythm coming out of it. When I hear strange things I make up stories for the explanations. There was a hobo in that car. He used to be a drummer for a famous band in the ’60s but he lost it all in Vegas and now he passes the time by drumming on some metal inside a freight train at train stations.
Finke. This is it when it comes to riding the train. Don’t take the ear buds. Take the big ones. They are good. Always get “Railroad French Toast” for breakfast. Sit in the lounge all night(your seat has a 50% chance of being stolen from some guy that likes to kick you out of your spot.) If you go to Chi-Town, this is must. Sit in the lounge before Milwaukee and all the way to the Glenview Station. It is a great 45 minute view of Illinois and Wisconsin.
